AMERICAN Jeff Overton might have shot a final
round of 79 at Whistling Straits to finish last, but
he broke a 19-year-old record in doing so. After
Ian Poulter’s withdrawal due to illness, Overton
was forced to play alone in the first grouping.
Overton teed off at 8:02 and at 10: 10 his final putt
dropped. His time of 2hr 8min for 18 holes in a PGA
championship was the fastest since Phil Blackmar
took 2hr 10min in 1991 at Crooked Stick Golf Club.
Overton was intentionally trying for the record,
running between shots, much to the annoyance
of his caddie and his group scoring officials.;
