Golfing paradise

Natadola Bay, Fiji:

THE Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course on Fiji’s Coral Coast is being hailed by a growing number of golfing pros and amateurs as one of the finest in the Pacific.

The par- 72 layout adjoining the luxurious InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa runs along the shores of the South Pacific Ocean into the neighbouring hills, with views of the surf and coral reefs from 15 of its 18 holes.

All the facilities necessary to a popular first-class club are available, including a pro shop, a 290-metre practice fair way, chipping and putting greens plus a separate tuition tee.

Before or after your game, there’s a state-of-the-art clubhouse with an open-air bar and 95- seat restaurant; while you’re playing, a drinks cart cruises the course offering refreshments.

The course, which opened in mid-2009, is operated by Avid Sports, an Australian professional management company headed by managing director James Cooper, also an Australian PGA member.

Natadola Bay has hosted the two most recent Fiji Open championships, an event that has attracted many up-and-coming professionals from Australia and New Zealand since its inception in 1970.

The 2009 Open was held within days of the
course opening and was won by Australian
Matt Griffin. This year, the prize went to New
Zealander Mike Hendry in a two-hole playoff
against countryman Scott Hill, with Griffin in
fourth place.
